What Is A Facelift?

A facelift, also known as a Rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic surgery designed to counteract the effects of aging and gravity by lifting and supporting sagging cheeks, jowls, and neck skin and muscles. This rejuvenation technique focuses on suspending the platysma muscle to redefine the jawline and neck, making it an ideal solution for addressing drooping jowls and loose neck skin. The procedure restores facial harmony, leaving patients with a vibrant, youthful, and refreshed appearance.

Facelifts are often combined with complimentary cosmetic procedures, such as a brow lift, upper and lower blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), neck lift, or rhinoplasty (nose surgery), to achieve comprehensive facial rejuvenation.

Dr Ashraf offers a variety of facelift techniques tailored to each patient’s unique needs:

Mini-Facelift

A Mini-Facelift is a refined version of a traditional facelift, designed to address mild to moderate skin laxity around the lower face. This procedure is considered less invasive by most plastic surgeons, as it involves minimal removal of excess skin compared to other facial surgeries.

During a mini-facelift, Dr Ashraf carefully makes discreet incisions around the ears, which are easily concealed once healed. Through these incisions, the facial muscles and skin are gently tightened, and any excess tissue is removed. The incisions are then closed using a precise suturing technique that minimizes tension on the skin, reducing the risk of visible scarring.

The procedure typically takes two to three hours to complete. While some mild swelling and bruising are expected, recovery from a mini-facelift is much quicker and less intense compared to a traditional full facelift. This option is often preferred by younger patients who are seeking a subtle enhancement and are not yet ready for a full facelift.

Mid-facelift

A midface lift is an effective procedure for restoring volume to the cheeks and reducing the appearance of jowls. This technique focuses on rejuvenating the mid and lower face through incisions made in front of the ears, with no incisions placed behind the ears or under the chin. While the neck may see some improvement as a secondary effect, it is not directly addressed during this procedure. The surgery typically takes about 2-3 hours to complete.

Deep Plane Facelift

A Deep Plane Facelift is widely regarded as one of the most effective and advanced techniques for restoring the natural appearance of the face and neck. Dr. Mohamed Ashraf is a renowned expert in performing the deep plane facelift.

This technique is known for delivering long-lasting results, with many patients enjoying their rejuvenated appearance for up to 15 years. The deep plane facelift focuses on lifting the platysma muscle in both the face and neck. In the face, the platysma is connected to the superficial muscular aponeurotic system (SMAS), which is also elevated during the procedure. These structures represent the first muscle layer just beneath the skin of the face and neck.

By lifting the muscle layer rather than relying on the skin, the face and neck are naturally supported without placing tension on the skin. Although some excess skin is trimmed due to stretching and redundancy over time, the focus on the muscle layer prevents a “pulled” appearance and ensures a more natural, rejuvenated look. The ultimate goal of the procedure is to restore your natural beauty in a harmonious and elegant way.

During a Deep Plane Facelift, you will be under general anesthesia, with an anesthesiologist present to ensure your comfort and safety. Dr. Ashraf will carefully mark the incision points around the hairline and ears. He will then tighten and secure the connective tissue layer (SMAS) and the underlying platysma muscle, releasing key ligaments at a deeper level to lift and rejuvenate your appearance. The muscle and tissue layers will be repositioned to enhance facial and neck contours. Once the procedure is complete, Dr. Ashraf will meticulously close the incisions to minimize visible scarring.

This advanced facelift technique is designed to provide a natural, refreshed appearance that stands the test of time.
